Hermann Wiemer, a German expatriate, bought an abandoned soybean farm in the hilly Finger Lakes, New York, region 1973 and put his winemaking pedigree to the test, turning it into a vineyard. Since then, Wiemer has turned out some of the United States’ best rieslings, and his viticultural know-how has literally rooted the vinifera revolution in New York.
